*Mumbai, 21st January 2024:* Over *160 GSK India employees, led by their Managing Director, Mr. Bhushan Akshikar,* participated in the 19th edition of the iconic TATA Mumbai Marathon to raise awareness about Shingles. The GSK team distributed informational leaflets with tear-off badges to drive higher awareness around the disease that afflicts 1 in 3 people above 50 years of age globally.[1]
Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus that resides in 90% of adults aged 50 years or older[2]. It is an important vaccine-preventable disease (VPD) amongst adults aged 50 years or older[3] and manifests as a painful rash and blisters. The pain can last for weeks or months.
GSK leveraged the platform of the TATA Mumbai Marathon to bring attention to this painful health issue, reflecting its commitment to public health. For more information on Shingles, if you or your loved ones are over 50, especially if suffering from any co-morbidities or any immunocompromising condition, consult your doctor on preventive measures and vaccination.
